PRESENTATION EXHIBITION SECTIONS

Impressionism and Van Gogh years

Treviso, Casa dei Carraresi
9 novembre 2002 - 30 marzo 2003

Paul Gauguin, Il ruscello, 1885

After the 2000 exhibition La nascita dell'Impressionismo and the one in 2001 Monet. I luoghi della pittura, the exhibition that will open on the 9th of November 2002 will be the logical sequence of the one devoted to the years preceeding the first exposition at the Parisian studio of Nadar.

The project aims to trace the period between the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874 and the last one in 1886, which already marked the ushering in of a different style, with the important presence of Seurat and Signac. Thus, reaching 1890, the year of Van Gogh's death, which appears like a schism between the former world and the new one, unveiling towards the turn of the century, the definitive confirmation of just how much those fifteen marvellous years of French art had left a mark in Europe and in the United States.

About 120 among paintings and sculptures from that era coming from all over the world will be exhibited in Treviso, at the Casa dei Carraresi, to testify the absolute wealth caused by, as the subtitle of the exhibition suggests, the revolution of a new art.

The exhibition is made up of five different sections, thus giving the visitors the chance to go through those fifteen marvellous years, following a sense of evolution of both technical and poetic nature.
